Preserve the Elegance: Simple Steps for Cleaning and Maintenance

1. Conditioning Before First Use

  • Condition your new bridle and leather items before using them for the first time.
  • This will help the leather break in faster and make it more resistant to wear and tear.

2. Cleaning Guidelines

  • Avoid using glycerin-based saddle soap, wet wipes, or antibacterial wipes on Vivace Equine products.
  • Instead:
    • Use a damp cloth or tack sponge with water or a leather cleaner to gently remove dark sweat marks.
    • Ensure the cloth is just damp enough to clean, not to soak into the leather.

3. Conditioning Routine

  • Apply leather balm or leather conditioner 1-2 times a week.
    • If your horse sweats a lot, increase conditioning to 3-4 times a week.
  • Use sparingly:
    • Apply just enough to lightly wipe over your bridle. Avoid using large amounts of leather grease, as this can wear down the stitching over time.
  • How to Apply:
    • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions. In most cases:
      • Use a tack sponge, cloth, or your fingers to massage the conditioner into the leather.
      • Wipe down the leather afterward with a clean cloth to remove any residue.

4. Storage Recommendations

  • Store leather tack in a dry, temperate tack room.
  • Use an insulated bag or cover for added protection.

5. After Riding in Sunlight or Rain

  • If you’ve been riding in strong sunlight or rain, always treat the leather with conditioner afterward to maintain its quality and longevity.
